Panel of Experts at NJAGC Annual Conference AddressesESSA and Gifted

The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) has provisions that should benefit gifted students.

You do not want to miss hearing up-to-the-minute information from national and state leaders, about gifted education requirements as they unfold for ESSA and New Jersey’s state plan for 2017-2018.  M.Rene Islas, Executive Director of the National Association for Gifted Children, will be traveling to NJ from Washington, DC to offer a national advocacy perspective. Matthew Angelo, Federal Liaison for the NJ Department of Education, will address NJ’s state plan. Michael Kaelber, Esq., Director of Legal and Labor Relations Services Department of the New Jersey School Boards Association, will focus on local educational agencies (districts),Title I & II funds, and requirements. Sean Hadley, Associate Director of Government Relations for the New Jersey Education Association, will address how funding in the new law may support educators and professional development in gifted education.

Each panelist will have a few minutes to address the role their agency plays in advocating and sharing information about gifted education in ESSA. Some questions will be prepared by NJAGC for panelists to answer. There will be some time allotted for questions from the audience.
